Until Today

Until last week, I didn't know anyone who had actually lost their job because of the economy.

Until today, I was convinced that we could tighten our belts and sail through relatively unscathed.

At two this afternoon, we received a registered letter from our landlord, telling us that he's putting the house we've been renting for more than three years on the market. We have thirty days.

Thirty days to find an affordable place to rent in the tiny portion of this tiny school district that will keep The Kid at his current school. Thirty days to stare down the garden plot Lefty has worked so hard on. Thirty days to say goodbye to the deck and the big old pecan tree.

My hand is sore, because everything I touched this afternoon I gripped too hard.

If you've got any to spare, send some light. We are going to need it.

  1. Sending light.

Sounds like a good day to go for a run.

  2. Oh, thank you, Jena. You know, it's the funniest thing - this morning is the first day EVER I've really resisted going for a run, but I am so very glad I went!

    Enjoy your day!

  3. Oh God, as a renter, I know this scenario too well. I hate being at the mercy of someone else's plans.

Someday I hope to have a garden plot like Lefty's in MY OWN yard.

    Light on it's way.

  4. Thanks, Mrs. G. I'm reflecting a little of that light back at you too.

  5. Having read the current entry before this one, all I can say is--your landlord is even more of a jerk than I realized. Thirty friggin days? Breathe. It will still be fine...you'll find the perfect place!
