Change of Season

The season is changing here in San Antonio. It is subtle and if you aren't paying attention you could miss it altogether.

I spent a handful of years in Maine and it left me finely tuned to the transition of one season to the next. And I do miss the long slow kiss of Fall's New England arrival.

Nothing seduces like September in Maine.

But stepping outside this morning, my pulse quickened. It was almost ten degrees cooler than last week and the air just feels different. Even Max noticed a difference as we hustled off to school.

We won't be breaking out sweaters until well into November. There are more hot days ahead but the change is coming. It is undeniably in the air. You just have to stop long enough to notice.

  3. in Maine the air is drier and the mornings cooler; only in the mid to high 50s for the past week. a few red leaves, here and there, but the real color comes in another month. to me, fall sounds like the referee's whistle on Saturday mornings.

it sounds like you might agree with me: fall is absolutely the best time to be in New England.

    love your blog :)

  4. Isn't there some quote about being homesick for New England, even if you've never been there?

    I've been there. I miss it. :)

It's great, isn't it? The cooler air, the feeling of change?

  5. I love this transition, the borderland between the seasons. It's that feeling of change that revs me up...

  6. I've always lived in the Northeast - NY, Massachusetts, Connecticut - and I love, Love, LOVE autumn. I even got married in the fall (though it turned out to be a hot day). And after a pretty hot August, the temperatures are coming down - down into the 50's and even the 40's at night. Bliss! My favorite time of the year is when I can sleep with the windows open again.

  7. Here in Missouri we started about a week ago. I caught a cold right away. And it is hanging on. I so have to work on enjoying the colder month. I love spring! It brings me away from hibernation.
I am just not ready for fall. As it is very short here.
