Arrgh

The Kid yells "arrrrgh" from the back of the house.

I yell back from the studio. "Are you okay? Do you need help?"

He replies, "No. I'm just having some issues."

That's my boy!

This is the second day in a row of NaBloPoMo kicking my ass. It's not that I don't have things to write about here, things I care about and want to say. It's just that I can't seem to string more than two coherent sentences together.

I care about the upcoming holiday and how to make them special for all of us without passing out from money stress. I care about my friends who got married in California and what's going to happen to the legality of their unions now. I care very much about Obama's transition team and how he'll put things together for January and swell with pride at how focused on integrity the transition team seems to be. (Anyone out there going to the inauguration? Can you take me with you?) I care that Lefty and I had an argument about Cream of Wheat this morning (I am totally serious) and I've felt ragged and sad about it all day.

What do you care about today?

  1. wow - an argument about cream of wheat - interesting. sorry you're still feeling blue.

so what do I care about? the fact that I can listen to the news again without feeling I might go mad, but with hope and excitement.

and I'm with you re: the holidays. I'm determined to enjoy them (a lot) without spending a fortune - or even very much at all.

  2. I'm with you - I actually look forward to national news instead of cringing!

  4. As a vehicle for butter and a little sugar, it takes me back to my childhood. :)

I am knocked off-center these days. When Mark goes to Hot Springs, he takes routine and stability with him, and I flounder.

So, what do I care about today? Hmm. Regaining some of that sense of stability. Reestablishing some routine here at home. Re-centering myself. Breathing and knowing that All is Well.

    Chop wood, carry water, right?

  5. I chopped off the first bit of my comment:

"Mmmm. Cream of Wheat." (Homer Simpson voice.)

  6. Chop wood, carry water and remember to breathe...

I practically hold my breath when stressed. Karate has helped me learn to breathe in very stressful situations but sometimes it comes out like a small hiss, like a teapot.

When Lefty is out of town, I create little rituals of comfort. A special dessert after The Kid is tucked in for the night, a soak in the tub before bedtime. I always get a new book to start while he's away too.

I know this upheaval of schedule and a move looming on the horizon is at best unsettling - if there's anything at all I can do for you, let me know.

    For now, I'm sending light.

  7. I love it--a fight over Cream of Wheat?! Once, Mark and I got into a fight in the car about Bruce Springsteen--it got so nasty, I was about to get out of the car when he stopped at a light. Isn't that ridiculous?!

I'm feeling pretty bummed about all the anti-gay crap that came out of this election, too. What I am trying to do, though, is think about the ways in which we HAVE progressed about this issue--there really HAS been progress. And I have faith we'll get there in the end.

I'm also with you on the money thing--we're definitely going low-key this year!

It's crazy, but even though we live a mere 30 miles from D.C., we're not planning on attending the inauguration. Mark actually works in the city, and I used to work right on the edge of it, and so we both know how horrid traffic and travelling is on a normal day. When we think of the millions of people planning on attending, oy vey!! The hideousness!! We may change our minds, but right now, we shudder at the thought.

  8. I don't blame you for not wanting to venture into the inauguration crowd. Big crowded events was one of the first things to fall out of our lives when we had The Kid.

By the way, I'm very happy to see you back at your blog these days...

  9. Oh, don't you hate those arguments about nothing? Is that mandatory in families? Seems to be. . .
