Perfect Protest

Brené Brown gets it. She gets how the idea of perfect robs us of the chance to be creative, to connect, to live authentically, to feel compassion and love. This week Brené is staging a week-long Perfect Protest. (Take a minute to check it out.)

One of the things that has sort of snuck up on me this year is how much courage it takes to be my truest self, to not put on the "mom costume" and force a smile. I've grown braver than I imagined I could be. I just don't have time for perfect anymore.

I have mixed feelings about the imperfection posts. I'm not trying to live up to anyone else's idea of perfection, but, through my lens, my life is perfect for me, imperfections and all! I get the idea of embracing your imperfections, but choosing to see your life and yourself as perfect for the stage of your journey is a choice, not living blindly or in denial. So, yeah, I'm too perfectly me to be imperfect. ;) http://centerdownhome.blogspot.com/2008/01/my-happy-little-life.html

  6. That is such a great pic (and I have to say--I first looked at it and thought, "Max"...and then looked closer and realized it was you!! you look so young and your son looks so much like you!!)

Ah perfect...perfect stops things up, doesn't it? Even more, pefect silences. What I say/paint/write/act/dance/whatever may not be perfect...I'd better wait a little longer...sigh...

I'm with you on this one...

  8. I just joined in on Brene's Perfect Protest. (Just found her blog last night, so I wasn't able to snap a picture). Once I hit a 30-something, I began to feel this way.
I have learned there is a sense of peace that comes with accepting little imperfections. :D
    Have a great weekend!!
