Happy Birthday, Lefty!

Today is my husband's birthday. We'll be the same age for five days and then I get to be a year older than him. (Older and wiser, I always say.)

There are a lot of things I could tell you about Lefty. Here are just a few. He's one of the most intelligent people I have ever met. He's a brilliant researcher, and a born teacher. He truly mourns the students he's unable to reach and spends a lot of time and energy trying to reach as many students as he can. He's quick to admit when something isn't working and enthusiastic about trying new things in the lab and the classroom. He's generous with his time, not only with his students, but also with his colleagues. He is a stellar husband and father. He always makes time to play with The Kid, no matter how busy or tired he may be. He is generous with me, always managing to sit and unwind a little in the evening even though there's a lab to write up or a lecture to work on. He is a constant voice of support to my writing, even when I feel unproductive and stuck. He does not begrudge me the office job I quit last year, even though our finances continue to suffer. He's my number one supporter and always says so. He is a talented musician. He plays guitar and a mean bass guitar these days too. He always has music going in his head and more often than not is tapping it onto the table, or steering wheel, or lab bench while he works. He's creative. He writes music. He wrote little poems for me when we started dating. He is a loyal friend and a terrible liar. He is one of the best things that ever happened to me and I considered myself lucky to have found such a partner.
